The Power of Gratitude
The idea for the power of gratitude is one of the most beautiful and practical that I have ever heard. But I have to be honest that I underestimated it for a long time.
I used to think that if I was grateful I would have less, but it appeared that the exact opposite is true. Because gratitude does not take, but only gives us more. It charges our bodies and inspires our soles.
Benefits
Gratitude can also help us in so many other ways:
We can feel happier
We can have a better focus
We can realize the important things in life for us
We can have more clarity in our minds
We can learn to focus on the positive around us
And many, many, many others
Health
It‘s an interesting fact that, when we feel grateful the levels of the hormones of happiness (serotonin and oxytocin) in our bodies increase while the hormone of stress (cortisol) decreases. This is why we can use the moments of gratitude as a short break from the hectic and monotonous daily life and in this way quickly change the state of our body.
Application
But how to put gratitude in practice? Here are a few simple ways to do that:
We can make a list of the things we are most grateful for.
And we have so many possibilities for that – we can write them on paper, on a computer, we can do it in the morning, at night or at any given moment during the day even by simply thinking about them.
And what can we be grateful for? This could be literally everything:
A new favorite clothe
A new book
A dessert we are having for lunch
A task that we managed to accomplish
Promotion at work
A new job
A conversation with a friend
Everything that makes us happy is a contender for our gratitude list.
We can try to use the word "thank you" as often as possible.
The pronunciation of the word itself may remind us of some of the reasons to be grateful, which will definitely makes us smile. This little habit helped me change my mind about gratitude and I stopped being afraid of giving thanks.
We can share the reasons that make us feel grateful with our loved ones.
In this way we can also learn to appreciate everything we have even more. And at the end of the day, everything is better if it is shared.
The feelings we get when we are grateful can be so strong, energizing, and inspiring that we feel like we can do anything. This is why I believe that we can and we should give it to ourselves every day, and to everyone else around us as well.
The famous author Eckhart Tolle says that, "the most important prayer in the world consists of two words only: Thank you."
And I thank you for taking the time to read this article! And I wish you countless reasons that make you feel grateful every day!
